Do you live in Oregon? Do you like theater? Do you want to go see a show? Read on. If none of those things apply-see ya later!
I don't work for the Portland Center Stage, and have no affiliation with them other then living nearby. I didn't receive anything for posting this - just sharing with others. It looks like a fun show and I have plans to go in mid-July...so don't blame me if you don't like it....but feel free to thank me if you do (for saving you five bucks, yo).
Portland Center Stage is gearing up to present the final show of its 2009/2010 season, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
The musical follows six prepubescent youngsters all vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime at a high-pressure regional spelling bee. For this band of oddballs and outsiders, the spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. Supervising the spelling bee is a group of grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves. The competition is intense. The words are outrageous. But in this hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst, each character learns that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee opens this week and runs until June 27, 2010. At its core, the show hilariously captures the angst, exhilaration, and heartache that makes growing up so painful and so wonderful.
You can get a $5 discount off adult tickets to any performance of Spelling Bee. This discount can be redeemed by entering the promo code MOMBLOG when purchasing tickets on the Portland Center Stage website. Special student and under 18 discounts are also available for all performances.

It should be noted, however, that this show is appropriate for ages 10 and up.
